MANAGE THE SIZE OF PAGEFILE & IMPROVE THE PERFORMANCE

To attain peak performance of your hard disk, you should manage your pagefile size. By default, Windows uses a pagefile of the size double of your RAM, which does not worth if you are using a general home PC for Internet and other general porpose. For best results, your pagefile size should not be greater than your RAM. I recommend you to have an initial size of 50% of your RAM and maximum size of 75% of your RAM.

*Eg. - If you have a 1 GB RAM, then your initial size should be 512 MB and maximum size should be 768 MB.

Follow the steps below to manage your page file :

* Right click on my computer icon- properties- advanced system settings- performance settings- advanced- and then click on change

* Here you can see a button "custom size" click on that button and enter an initial and a maximum size according to your RAM. Now click set and then 'ok'

* Restart to take effect.

Windows vista and 7 has built in search for ease in files and folder searching. This is done with the help of indexed data which is done in the background processing.
Sometimes, It slows down your PC. One thing you can do with, is to manage which folders you want to search or not.

* Goto control panel and type ' index ' in the search bar. You can now see ' indexing options ' in the search results, click on that.

* Now a window is opened and you have to click on 'modify' to add or remove folders from indexing.

* You can also manage file types that you do not want to be indexed, just uncheck those file types in the advanced options and you have done.

*Enjoy a faster PC.

The transparent glass in Windows Vista computer  looks very nice. However, on some computers that have underpowered video adapters will see a performance hit when running the transparent glass effect.  One way to speed up Windows Vista & 7 and still get the benefits of aero, such as flip 3D and taskbar thumbnails, you have to disable glass transparency.

   * Click on the desktop and select Personalize.
   * Select Windows Color and Appearance.
   * Uncheck Enable Transparency.

Microsoft announced to release their latest operating system 'Windows 7' on 22nd October 2009. Finally, you will be able to get your copy from Microsoft's website and retailers.
The Microsoft recommended retail price for various editions of Windows 7:
Windows 7 Starter Edition: USD $199.95
Windows 7 Home Premium Edition: USD $259.95
Windows 7 Professional Edition: USD $299.95
Windows 7 Ultimate Edition: USD $319.95
Which is as same as the current price tags of Windows Vista.

I have tried the Release Candidate (RC) version of Windows 7 and found it great for daily computing. The boot time is slightly less than Windows Vista and better explorer.exe optimisation - It now takes less memory space. You do not need any hardware upgrade if your primary OS is now Windows Vista.
No problem for Windows XP users also, If you have 512 MB RAM, It will be a smooth experience. But I recommend 1 GB of RAM for Fast and easy Computing.

The best thing Microsoft has done with Windows 7 is ' The XP Mode ' For windows 7 professional and Ultimate users. It will provide you with maximum compatibility of softwares which are made for Windows XP. Now you do not need to dual boot your system for running XP programs in your computer. The XP mode will provide a fully licenced copy of windows XP which will run as a guest OS in virtual environment. The XP mode and Virtual PC will be available free of cost for Windows 7 professional and Ultimate users only.
